Everyone enjoys looking at their new tattoo. Feel free to show it! But, if you want it to look good for a long time, you need to take good care of it in the next few weeks. After all, a new tattoo is actually a wound and needs the right treatment to heal properly, especially if you want to keep that “newly tattooed” style for as long as possible. Here is our care advice that you will also take home with you after your visit to the studio:
The first thing you should do is buy home Bepanthen cream. It is available in the children’s department at the pharmacy.
Leave the plastic on for about 2-3 hours, maximum 12 hours. (alternatively 5 days if you have self-adhesive plastic) Do not re-plaster the tattoo!
When removing the plastic, shower/wash the tattoo with lukewarm water. It will feel a little strange, but that’s exactly how it should feel. When you have rinsed and pat dry with a clean paper towel, then apply a layer of Bepanthen.
The Bepanthen can feel quite sticky, a tip is to wear loose clothes at the beginning and when you sleep, as it easily “smudges” against the clothes.
Use cream 3-4 times a day, the tattoo should always feel soft, not dry. Do not overdo the moisturization, the tattoo must be aired. Everything in moderation!
After 1-2 weeks the scabs will fall off. You don’t have to worry about the tattoo or the color “falling off”, it’s just the scabs. After all the scabs come off, the tattoo may still be dry for a week or two, it may also look shiny and thin. It’s completely normal, and just keep moisturizing when it feels dry.
Avoid sunbathing for at least a month. If you are going to be out in the sun, cover the tattoo. In the future after the tattoo is healed, you increase the life of the tattoo with a high sun protection factor as protection.
Avoid exercise for the first 3 days.
Avoid using the sauna or bathing in the first month, both outdoors and indoors.
Do not scratch the tattoo, this is to avoid scraping off scabs so that the color comes off.
Remember to never let anyone else touch your tattoo while it is healing. You can compare a tattoo to an open wound, treat it as such too.
