Here are some tips from our resident artist, Levente to help you choose your next tattoo.

Reflecting on my own journey from someone unfamiliar with the tattooing process to becoming a tattoo artist, I recall the initial confusion about how to approach booking a tattoo. For those of you who are in a similar position, considering getting a tattoo but unsure where to start, I’m here to offer guidance.

There are at least two primary approaches to consider. The first involves having a clear idea of the tattoo design you want. Let’s say you’re drawn to a realistic black and grey rose tattoo. A great first step is to search for skilled artists in your local area (unless you’re open to traveling). Utilize online platforms like Google to discover reputable studios and identify artists who specialize in the style you’re looking for. Once you’ve shortlisted a few artists with relevant work in their portfolios, compare their styles to determine your preference. To illustrate this process, I’ll provide some visual aids.

After narrowing down your choices to two favored artists, consider scheduling consultations with each to gauge which one aligns best with your vision. If, after the consultations, none seem to be the right fit, continue your search. Once you’ve found the ideal artist, ensuring they are within your budget, proceed to book your tattoo session.

Alternatively, you may already have a specific artist in mind whose style you admire. In this case, it’s crucial to ensure that your tattoo idea aligns with their body of work. For instance, if the artist specializes in traditional tattoos, requesting a realistic rose may not be suitable. Instead, opt for a traditional style rose. Giving the artist creative freedom while guiding them with your preferences can lead to a more harmonious collaboration.

While these are general guidelines, there are additional factors to consider when choosing your tattoo artist. Hygiene is paramount—during consultations, observe the working area and don’t hesitate to inquire about cleanliness and safety measures. Take note of the studio’s overall cleanliness, including the restroom, and pay attention to these crucial details.

These guidelines serve as a starting point for selecting your next tattoo artist, but remember, each journey is unique. Explore your options, ask questions, and find an artist whose style resonates with you. Happy tattoo hunting! 🌹💉
